What is the French Gemmological Laboratory?

The Laboratoire français de gemmologie (LFG) is the oldest gemmological laboratory in the world. Founded in 1929 by the Chambre syndicale du diamant, it has been affiliated since 2011 with the Union BJOP (French Union of Jewellery, Gold and Silversmithing, Stones and Pearls). Its main mission is to expertly assess gems to inform consumers.

The Laboratoire français de gemmologie makes it a point of honour that each report issued is based on rigorous scientific analysis. It is, moreover, the only laboratory in France to offer scientifically founded analyses for diamonds, gemstones, coloured stones and pearls. The certifications issued by the LFG are recognised worldwide for their reliability and security, which explains why major jewellery houses, such as Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Chaumet or even Boucheron, trust it to guarantee the authenticity and quality of their precious stones.

Founded and operating according to the National Expert Appraisal Charter, the LFG also complies with the recommendations of the Ministry of Higher Education and Research. This laboratory is completely independent, thereby guaranteeing the objectivity and neutrality of its appraisals.

This approach allows us to best guarantee the quality and authenticity of our stones. Although systematic analysis of every stone or pearl is impossible due to high costs, this regular expert appraisal protocol constitutes a reliable control. It helps to strengthen transparency with our suppliers and maintain the trust of our customers.
